Sophomore Eric Semmelhack of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team allowed just one run in eight innings Saturday but game two of a doubleheader against IPFW was suspended, 1-1, due to darkness after 10 innings and will be completed tomorrow.
Semmelhack allowed just a single run in the fourth in scattering five hits. He struck out six and walked three. Senior Cuyler Franzke came on in relief and contributed 1.2 scoreless innings of his own, allowing just one hit.
The offense was unable to help out, scoring just a single run. That came in the second inning on senior Sam Sivilotti's sacrifice fly.
Milwaukee ended up with nine hits, with sophomore Jonathan Capasso at 3-for-4 at this point and seniors Cole Kraft (2-for-5) and Doug Dekoning (2-for-4) also adding multi-hit outings.
The Panthers dropped a tough one in the opener when IPFW broke a 4-4 deadlock in the eighth inning. Following a leadoff walk, UWM almost got out of it, but Garrett Segraves come up with the big two-out hit that plated the winner.
Down 4-0 after three innings, the Panthers battled back to tie the game, making a huge dent in the deficit with three runs in the fourth inning. Dekoning and freshman Sam Koenig recorded base hits to start the rally. Milwaukee then got two-out clutch hits from sophomore Drew Pearson, freshman Derek Peake and Kraft to keep the inning alive.
The Panthers then tied it in the sixth on another two-out single, this time from sophomore Nick Lingvay. UWM did have numerous chances in the game, stranding 10 runners on base.
Senior Chad Pierce started and worked the first five innings. He struck out seven and walked two, allowing three earned runs and six hits.
The offense collected 10 hits, led by a 3-for-4 outing from Kraft and two hits each from Peake (2-for-3) and Koenig (2-for-5).
The series concludes with a final game Sunday, which will start after conclusion of today's suspended contest.
