Post-Game Wrap-Up

CHICAGO, Ill. (Feb. 10, 2011) - Lindsay Laur had 25 points and 12 rebounds, but it was not enough as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball team fell to Loyola, 89-74, Thursday evening at the Gentile Center.

The Panthers (9-14, 6-6 Horizon) could not overcome 53.2 percent shooting by the Ramblers (11-11, 5-6 Horizon) and an 18-8 discrepancy in turnovers in falling for just the third time in nine games.

"Give Loyola a lot of credit," Milwaukee head coach Sandy Botham said. "They came out and executed their offensive and their defensive game plan and really took it to us. They shot the ball extremely well and had great rhythm. We just weren't able to take them out of what they wanted to do."

Laur was one of four UWM players in double-figures. Angela Rodriguez scored 15, Anne Breland 13 and Courtney Lindfors 10. Sami Tucker missed a double-double with just seven points to go with 11 rebounds.

Lisa Samplawski led Loyola with a career-high 23 points, while Monica Albano also hit the 20-point mark. Brittany Boeke had 16 points and Troy Hambric finished with 13.

The Ramblers came out of the gates with hot shooting, hitting at 58.8 percent in the first half and using a 17-7 run to lead by as many as nine. Milwaukee was able to hang with Loyola at times, but turned the ball over 10 times and hit 48.5 percent from the field.

UWM went cold to start the second half, missing its first 12 field goal attempts and getting all of its points at the free throw line before Breland hit a jumper at 12:06. Meanwhile, the Ramblers were able to pull away, building their lead to 17 at 67-50 with 9:57 to play.

Milwaukee did catch fire with a 14-5 run to make it an eight-point game at 72-64 with 5:11 to play. However, despite the Panthers being able to keep the deficit at nine on a couple of occasions, turnovers and Loyola's shooting proved too much to overcome.

UWM shot 44.3 percent for the game, including a strong 8-for-20 from three-point range. The team was also a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line. The Panthers fought for a 37-27 rebounding advantage, but it was not enough to overcome an 18-8 shortfall in the turnover category.

Loyola finished the game shooting 53.2 percent, burying 10-of-21 three-point attempts. The Ramblers were also a strong 13-for-16 at the free throw line. They also turned UWM turnovers into 17 points.

The Panthers return to Chicago Saturday, taking on UIC at the UIC Pavilion. UWM and the Flames tip off at 5:30 p.m.
