Post-Game Wrap-Up

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Jan. 2, 2011) - Dominique Dixon scored a career-high 32 points to lead Detroit to a 90-76 win over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball team Sunday afternoon at the Klotsche Center.

The Panthers (3-10, 0-2 Horizon) had four players score in double-figures, but could not find an answer for the UDM (7-6, 1-1 Horizon) offense that also featured 20 points from Cherridy Thornton.

"It's hard, this has been a tough stretch for us getting out of our woes," Milwaukee head coach Sandy Botham said. "I think we are still in a forming stage. We didn't have Sammy Theut (ankle) out there today and you could see out inexperience show at times. In the first half, I thought, we settled (for three-pointers). That created a lot of opportunities for Detroit."

Lindsay Laur collected her fourth-straight double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. The streak is the second-longest in school history. Three freshmen also cracked the 10-point mark, as Courtney Lindfors and Angela Rodriguez scored 15 apiece and Kimee Chandler added 10.

Yar Shayok also scored 17 points for Detroit, but Dixon was the story. She buried her first four 3-point attempts and finished with six in the game. She also was 11-for-16 from the field in topping the 30-point mark for her second-straight game.

Several Detroit runs throughout the first half doomed UWM early on. The visitors led just 7-6 early in the period before rattling off a 24-7 run. The Panthers fought back with seven-straight points, but UDM then went on an 18-2 run to build a game-high 26-point lead at 48-22 with just over two minutes remaining before halftime.

Despite the deficit, Milwaukee did not lose its fight. The team went on a 12-2 run that encompassed the end of the first half and start of the second. The Panthers later cut the Titans' lead to just 12 late, but could not pull within single digits.

UWM shot 46.9 percent in the game. It struggled from long range, making just 5-of-22 after a school-record 15 on Friday, but got production in the paint. The Panthers were 25-for-42 on two-point attempts and had the 40-34 advantage on points in the paint. They also had the 33-31 rebounding edge.

Detroit shot 53.7 percent for the game, knocking down 10-of-21 three-point attempts. The Titans also got to the free throw line 31 times as Milwaukee was fouling down to the final moments, converting 22 attempts. UDM was the first opponent to put 90 points on Milwaukee since DePaul did so Nov. 30, 2005. Dixon was also the first opponent with 30 points against the Panthers since the 2002-03 season.

Milwaukee returns to action on the road, heading to Cleveland State Thursday. The Panthers and Vikings tip off at 6 p.m. central time.
