Lindsay Laur Post-Game Interview | Post-Game Wrap-Up

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Jan. 15, 2011) - Lindsay Laur had 20 points and 15 rebounds to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball team to a 72-58 win over Loyola Saturday evening at the Klotsche Center.

Neither team led by more than five points for the first 30 minutes of the game, but the Panthers (6-11, 3-3 Horizon) were the first team to cross that threshold midway through the second half and pulled away with 10-straight points down the stretch.

"It's exciting to get a different streak going for Panther women's basketball," Milwaukee head coach Sandy Botham said. "Nice victory. It was a back-and-forth game, but we were able to create some separation with our defense. We turned it up in the full court and, I think, just wore them out."

Laur added four steals and was joined in double-figure scoring by Anne Breland, who knocked down four 3-pointers for 12 points. Courtney Lindfors added nine points, while Sami Tucker had eight points and seven rebounds.

Monica Albano led the Ramblers' (8-8, 2-3 Horizon) with a game-high 21 points. Ellen Ayoub scored with 15 points.

The Panthers overcame a cold shooting stretch to take the lead for good at 42-41 on the first of back-to-back Jenilee Klomstad putbacks. Ashley Imperiale had converted a three-point play 35 seconds earlier to snap a 9:37 drought without a field goal by Milwaukee. Despite the run, Loyola only outscored it 14-8 during that time to hold a five-point lead.

The teams then traded baskets for the next few minutes before UWM started to pull away. Laur hit a layup to give the Panthers a game-high six-point lead at 52-46 with just over nine minutes to play. Holding a 59-52 advantage at the 4:51 mark, Milwaukee rattled off 10-straight points to put the game out of reach, holding the Ramblers without a point for almost four minutes.

UWM capitalized in the post time and time again all game, accruing a 32-18 advantage on points in the paint. The team also had a commanding 52-32 rebounding margin, with 15 offensive boards leading to 16 second-chance points. The Panthers finished the game shooting 37.3 from the field, making just 5-of-20 three-pointers. They got to the free throw line 20 times, converting 17.

After a hot streak to start the game, Loyola cooled off to shoot just 30.6 percent from the field. The Rambler were held to just a 24.2 percent clip in the second half as UWM took control of the game. The visitors attempted 31 three-pointers, connecting on seven, and were 13-for-19 at the free throw line.

LUC did, however, win the turnover battle, 16-12, turning those Panther miscues into 21 points. Milwaukee finished with six points off turnovers.

The Panthers will look to push its winning streak to four games at in-state rival No. 18 Green Bay next Saturday. UWM and GB tip off at 2 p.m. at the Kress Events Center in a game that will be televised on Time Warner Sports 32.
