MILWAUKEE -
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee landed 96 student-athletes on the 2010 Horizon League Spring Academic Honor Roll, the league office announced today.
The 96 honorees were the second-most in the league to Butler's 116, but BU does offer four more league varsity sports than UWM.
To qualify for the league's honor roll, a student-athlete must be a participant in at least one of the League's 19 sports during the most recent season, have completed at least three semesters as a full-time student and have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale).
In, 727 league student-athletes were honored.
UWM's women's track and field team led the way with 16 student-athletes on the honor roll, while the men's swimming and diving team had 13 honorees. All of Milwaukee's varsity sports were represented on the honor roll.
The department continues to excel academically, as during the spring 2010 semester, student-athletes earned a 3.113 grade-point average. The department's cumulative grade-point average is now 3.167. Overall, UWM has 146 student-athletes with a grade-point average of 3.0 or better.
