Lindsay Laur and Danielle Jorgenson each had double-doubles as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee completed a season sweep of Loyola with a 60-51 win Thursday night at the U.S. Cellular Arena.
Laur had 18 points and 11 rebounds while Jorgenson added 15 points and 13 boards.
Milwaukee (10-14, 5-8 Horizon) led by as many as 11 points in the first half but by just one point at halftime. The Ramblers still had the game tied at 47 with 4:26 remaining before the Panthers ended the game on a 13-4 run to snap a four-game losing streak.
UWM held a huge edge at the foul line, making 22-of-32 while Loyola was just 3-of-4. Milwaukee also claimed a 42-32 edge on the boards and limited the Ramblers to just 36.l percent shooting from the field.
Shannon Finnegan had 12 points, Keisha Collins 11 and Ellen Ayoub 10 for Loyola (13-12, 7-7).
Sami Tucker added 11 points for UWM.
"This was a great win for us," UWM head coach Sandy Botham said. "We told the players that we don't like where we're sitting now, but there is plenty of opportunity to move up the ladder to get ourselves in good position and keep getting better. We want to be playing the best basketball at the end and I think we're starting to do that."
The Panthers got off to a fast start in the contest, scoring 11 of the first 13 points in the game. UWM's lead hit 17-6 on a layin by Sammy Theut and was still 21-12 following a jumper by Jorgenson. But, Loyola ended the half on a 12-4 run to pull within 25-24 at the break.
Milwaukee led by as many as five early in the second half and, while Loyola forced a tie on three occasions, the Ramblers could never claim the lead. The Panthers took the lead for good at 49-47 on a pair of Laur free throws with 3:14 remaining. Those points sparked an 8-0 run that gave Milwaukee a 55-47 advantage with 56 seconds remaining, and the Panthers were never threatened from there.
UWM returns to action Saturday afternoon, squaring off with UIC in a 2 p.m. contest at the Klotsche Center.
