MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Jan. 7, 2010) - Junior Lindsay Laur posted her second-straight double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds and intercepted an inbounds pass with 5.4 seconds remaining, but it was not enough as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball team fell to Detroit, 59-57, Thursday night at the Klotsche Center.

The Panthers (6-8, 1-2 Horizon) led for much of the second half, but fell behind on a Lauren Allen three-pointer with 31 seconds remaining. On the final play, Laur came down with a high inbounds pass to give UWM a final chance, but the team was unable get find a shot as the horn sounded.

"Give Detroit credit, they came in here really aggressive and really took it to us," UWM head coach Sandy Botham said. "I'm disappointed with the loss, but their focus and energy was there and we never got into any kind of rhythm. It's disappointing not to take care of business at home, but I didn't think we had that fire, those intangibles that are such important pieces if you are going to be successful."

Laur was one of four players in double-figures for the Panthers, while she added four assists and three steals to her stat line. Junior Anne Breland had 11 points off the bench, thanks to three 3-pointers, and juniors Ashley Imperiale and Jenilee Klomstad had 10 points apiece.

Jalesa Jones finished with a team-high 14 points for the Titans (4-9, 2-0 Horizo), who won for the third-straight game after a nine-game losing streak. Allen and Yar Shayok finished with 12 points apiece.

The game featured 13 ties and 14 lead changes, with Milwaukee leading by as many as six and the Titans as many as three on Allen's three-pointer. UWM held a 53-48 advantage with 4:39 to play. Detroit then tied the score with five-straight points and, after a Laur jumper, scored five more points for the 58-55 lead.

UWM missed on its next trip down the court and fouled Brigid Mulroy, who hit one of two free throws. Imperiale then hit a layup and the Panther defense pressured UDM into a timeout after the ensuing inbounds pass and another coming out of the first timeout. Laur then picked off a high inbounds pass at midcourt setting up the final play.

Neither team shot particularly well in the game, with the Panthers finishing at 36.1 percent overall and 29.2 percent from three-point range. Detroit shot 37.9 percent in the game and made just 5-of-20 three-point attempts.

The Titans won the battle of the boards, 42-40, and had 18 on the offensive glass, compared to 15 offensive boards for Milwaukee. The visitors also had one less turnover (19-18), but it was UWM that had more second chance points (14-10) and more points off turnovers (21-12).

The Panthers return to action Saturday, hosting Wright State. Tip-off is at 6 p.m., a rare Saturday night home game for Milwaukee.
