CHICAGO, Ill. - Senior Kerry Rossow broke two pool records and sophomore Heidi Niespodzany won three times to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming & diving team to a convincing 208-92 victory over the University of Chicago Saturday at the Ratner Athletics Center. The Panthers (7-5) handed the Maroons (5-1) their first dual loss of the season, winning 11 events on the day.

Rossow established pool records in both breaststroke events, winning the 100 in 1:05.29 (record was 1:05.92) and the 200 in a season-best 2:21.54 (was 2:23.43). IN addition to the pair of wins, Rossow placed second in the 200 IM in 2:13.54.

"We haven't competed for over a month and a half, so I am extremely pleased with the results," UWM head coach Erica Janssen. "The swims that Kerry Rossow had today were really a great highlight. Overall, we had lots of outstanding swims, which was good to see especially after how hard we have been training. The whole team just really performed extremely well today and I could not be more pleased."

Niespodzany had her best-ever day in the pool as a Panther, claiming wins in the 200 freestyle in 1:55.25, the 50 free in 25.21 and the 100 free in 53.41.

Other winners for UWM included senior Bailey Nennig, junior Ellie Gross, freshmen Taylor Andrews, Jenna Wisdorf and Karmyn VandeWettewring and both relay teams.

Nennig touched the wall in 2:12.49 to win the 200 IM, while Gross won the 1200 back stroke in 59.42. Andrews claimed a victory in the 1000 freestyle in 10:33.88, Wisdorf a crown in the 200 back in 2:12.49 and VandeWettering the 500 free in 5:12.26.

The 500 free was one of the closest races of the meet, as UWM placed 1-2-3 in the event. In addition to VandeWettering's winning time of 5:12.26, freshman Ashley Yanzsa was second in 5:12.55 and senior Jenny Westfall third in 5:12.90. Just 64-hundreths of a second separated the top three. Westfall was also second in the 1000 free in 10:41.41.

The 200 medley relay team won in 1:51.42 and the 400 free relay team won in 3:66.69. Junior Lauren Roy placed second on both boards to lead the way for the diving team.

The team has one road trip remaining in the regular season, as it will head south to take on Western Illinois, January 30 at 3 p.m.
