MUNCIE, Ind. -
Freshman Beth Ganser advanced all the way to the finals in Flight D singles play while University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee tandems won five doubles contests on day two of the Ball State Invitational Saturday.
Ganser wound up falling to Lauren Pickrel of Ball State, 6-7(5), 6-0, 10-2, in the final match. Pickrel also knocked off Jenna Felsher in the semifinals, beating the junior, 6-3, 6-4.
Meanwhile, in doubles play, Kelly Fritz and Megan Gow won the consolation title in Flight C. The tandem beat a group from Bradley in its first match of the day before claiming a win over a pair from Wright State in the consolation final.
In other action Saturday, Kelly Drvaric and Kari Kastenholz split a pair of doubles matches, while Kastenholz dropped her only singles match of the day in Flight A. Sammi Schoen and Brittany Skemp teamed up for a doubles victory, while Schoen lost a hard-fought, three-setter in singles action.
Ganser and Ashley Schoneman also captured a doubles victory for Milwaukee.
UWM returns to action in two weeks, traveling to the IPFW Invitational.
