MADISON, Wis. (Aug. 24, 2009) - For the second-straight match to open the season, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team found itself in a 0-0 draw, doing so against Wisconsin Monday evening at McClimon Soccer Complex.

Freshman Jamie Forbes made four saves to keep the Panthers (0-0-2) out of the loss column, while Wisconsin improved to 0-1-1. Milwaukee opened a season with two ties for the first time in school history and have strung together back-to-back 0-0 ties for the first time, as well.

"I'm disappointed we tied again and we just couldn't find the back of the net," UWM head coach Michael Moynihan said. "I was happy with the way we were able to possess the ball. I thought our decision-making in the final third was a bit off. But, the goals will come. We created some nice chances."

It was the second-straight shutout for Forbes to start her career, making her the fourth UWM keeper to open her career with shutouts in her first two collegiate starts.

Wisconsin held the advantage in shots at 19-12 and corner kicks at 7-2. But, the Panthers called on Forbes' counterpart, Michele Dalton, to make seven saves. The match proved to be a physical affair with 33 total fouls called, including 19 on UWM.

Senior Kate Megna, junior Nicole Sperl and sophomore Sarah Hagen led Milwaukee with three shots apiece.

The game was a display of the two teams' differing styles. Milwaukee's played its patient, methodical pace, against the Badgers' direct, penetrating attack. Neither plan proved fruitful through a scoreless regulation.

UWM's defense came up big in the first half, especially in the 18th minute. Wisconsin played a ball over the defense, but senior Kayla DeJardin blocked the shot attempt. Moments later UW sent a shot off the cross bar. The Panthers immediately countered, working the ball down the endline, but ultimately had the ball deflected away by a defender. Forbes also came up with a key save in the opening half, diving to deny a far-post shot.

In the second half, Milwaukee became more aggressive, but could not find the back of the net.

Both teams looked to end the game in the first overtime, as shots came fast and furious in the period. Megna blasted a pair of lasers into the midsection of the Dalton. Near the end of the frame, junior Heather Roadhouse just missed connecting on a cross from Hagen. The play started off impressive enough, as Hagen dribbled around and through most of the UW defense to send the cross to the far post.

The Panthers return to action this weekend, co-hosting the Milwaukee Cup with Marquette. UWM hosts Michigan Friday at 7 p.m. and Rice Sunday at noon. The Wolverines will be the third-straight Big Ten Milwaukee plays to start the season.
