The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team captured eight singles wins and four doubles victories on the first day of the IPFW Women's Tennis Invitational Friday.
The Panthers will have Jenna Felsher and Beth Ganser facing each other in the Flight 7 singles final Saturday, while the tandem of Sammi Schoen and Brittany Skemp are in the Flight 3 doubles final.
Felsher advanced to the final with a pair of hard-fought three-set victories, while Ganser claimed a straight-sets win in the first round before beating Lauryn Grimando of Green Bay in three sets in the semifinals.
Schoen and Skemp won their opening doubles match by an impressive 8-2 tally, but then had to pull out their second contest of the day in a tiebreaker.
In other action Friday, Sammi Schoen split two matches in Flight 3 while Skemp went 1-1 in Flight 4. Kelly Fritz (Flight 5) and Megan Gow (Flight 6) also went 1-1 on the day.
In doubles play, Kelly Drvaric and Kari Kastenholz split two matches in the top flight, while Fritz and Gow went 1-1 in the second doubles flight.
