MUNCIE, Ind. -
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team opened play at the Ball State Invitational Friday with six singles victories and two doubles wins.
Sophomore Jenna Felsher and freshman Megan Gow each led the way in singles play, with both going 2-0 in Flight C play.
In Flight A, Kelly Drvaric and Kari Kastenholz each dropped their only match of the day. In Flight B, Sammi Schoen split two contests, as did Ashley Schoneman. In Flight C, Felsher and Gow are in opposite semifinals Saturday morning after their two wins apiece, while in Flight D, Karlee Miller dropped her opening contest.
In doubles play, UWM's victories came from Drvaric and Kastenholz in Flight A and Schoen and Schoneman in Flight B.
"I feel like we are not playing our best tennis but we are still finding ways to win, which is good," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "We played in tough conditions today with the wind, but this is a solid tournament with good competition for us to measure ourselves against."
Play resumes Saturday morning.
