The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team wrapped up its stay at the Hotels at Grand Prairie Invitational with four more singles victories and two additional doubles wins.
Kelly Drvaric, Jenna Felsher and Kari Kastenholz all had wins in Flight A singles while Ashley Schoneman captured a win in Flight B singles. In doubles action, Drvaric and Kastenholz teamed up for a victory while Schoneman and Sammi Schoen captured an additional win.
Drvaric and Schoneman had the toughest paths to victory. Drvaric needing three sets to beat Nicole Miller of Bradley, 6-3, 1-6, 10-6. Meanwhile, Schoneman claimed a 6-3, 5-7, 10-4 win over Kelly Donohue of Bradley.
Felsher captured a 6-4, 6-4 win over Annie Egan of Eastern Illinois while Kastenholz claimed a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Emily Rogers of Northern Illinois.
In doubles play, Drvaric and Kastenholz had an 8-4 victory over a tandem from Bradley and Schoen and Schoneman also captured an 8-3 win over another team from BU.
Drvaric went unbeaten for the weekend in singles play while Schoneman was perfect in both singles and doubles action. In fact, the tandem of Schoneman and Schoen won the Flight B doubles title while finals were not officially played in singles action due to the extensive rain throughout the weekend.
"It was a great start to the season," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "Kelly defeated three top players from Bradley, Northern Illinois and Eastern Illinois while Ashley was very good as well. We really had a lot of very good efforts."
The Panthers will return to action in two weeks at the Ball State Invitational.
