Hot-Shooting Trio Power Panthers Past Wisconsin AAU, 76-47

Box Score

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Nov. 4, 2007) - Freshman Lindsay Laur scored 23 points on 9-of-9 shooting to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball team to a 76-47 win over Wisconsin AAU Sunday afternoon at the Klotsche Center in the Panthers' exhibition finale.

Senior Aubri Rote added 15 points and freshman Jenilee Klomstad 11 to lead Milwaukee to its second decisive exhibition win of the season. The trio of Laur, Rote and Klomstad combined for 19-of-22 shooting on the night, including 7-for-7 on three-point attempts.

"Lindsay can shoot. She's got great touch from everywhere and has such a quick release," Milwaukee head coach Sandy Botham said. "That's what the exhibitions are for. To get everyone in, get them experience and see the makeup of what we have in game situations, Pleasant surprise with Lindsay, pleasant surprise with Jenilee. Mac (Jodie McClain) did a nice job, coming in, running the show, and being more aggressive."

Danielle Kamm scored 16 points and Kelly Schwerman-Leibham added 10 to pace the Wisconsin AAU squad.

For the second-straight game, the Panthers jumped out to a double-digit lead before allowing their opponent to score. UWM scored the first 11 points of the game and quickly built an 18-point lead at 25-7 on nine-straight points by Laur with 8:30 to play in the first half.

The lead would go as high as 20 in the first half at 32-12, with Milwaukee taking a 37-21 lead into halftime. Laur picked up 14 points in the opening period in just seven minutes of action. The Panthers led by at least 20 for much of the second half, pushing its lead to 30 in coasting to the win.

Two days after scoring 66 points in the paint against Beloit, UWM favored an outside attack, hitting 11 three-pointers in the game compared with 26 points in the paint. The Panthers once again moved the ball effectively with 25 assists. Sophomore Jodie McClain led the team with seven assists and junior Emily Markert added six.

"We can score. We've got a lot of weapons. In the two exhibitions, we've seen the kind of presence we have. With the kind of system we have, we are going to be able to spread teams out," Botham said. "We did a nice job of really wearing them down, pushing in transition and getting some easy ones. It's a nice win. It's nice to be able to look at some different lineups, get all the players in and get all our players experience in getting ready for the regular season."

Milwaukee hit on 42.2% from the field, including 47.8% on three-pointers. Meanwhile, it held AAU to just 29.5% and two 3-pointers. UWM also outrebounded its opponent 48-39 and blocked seven shots, including three apiece by Klomstad and junior Traci Edwards.

When the Panthers are in action next, they'll be kicking off the 2007-08 season with a two-game road swing through Illinois. The season opens Nov. 9 at Chicago State.
