Drews Sparks Panthers On Day Two At Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. - Samantha Drews claimed a pair of singles victories to spark a strong effort by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team on day two of the Ball State Invitational.

In all, the Panthers claimed six singles wins and two doubles wins on the second day of the event.

Drews won both of her matches in Flight C, defeating Laura Ashli Vlasek of Miami 6-3, 6-3, before dropping Rachel Suroviec of Ball State 6-2, 6-1. Lauren Fenley also split a pair of matches in Flight C, with her win coming 6-1, 7-5 over Ashley Young.

Ashley Schoneman and Ali O'Neal had each advanced to the semifinals of Flight C singles with wins on Friday, but each dropped their semifinal match Saturday. The two then met in a final match, with O'Neal claiming a 6-0, 6-2 win.

In Flight B singles, Ashley Clark won her only match, a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Monica Capozziell. In Flight A singles, Kari Kastenholz dropped her only match, Traci Litscher split two matches at Flight D singles, with her win coming 6-3, 6-1 over Amanda O'Connell of Dayton.

In doubles play, the team of Clark and Kastenholz defeated Vlasek and Linda Jirouskova of Miami, 8-6. Meanwhile. the tandem of O'Neal and Kelly Drvaric beat Capozziello and Miles of Wright State, 8-2.
