Three University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee players remain alive in the winners bracket after day one of the Ball State Invitational.
Ashley Schoneman and Ali O'Neal each won both of their matches in Flight C singles play, while Lauren Fenley had a bye before winning her lone match at Flight E singles.
Schoneman claimed a 6-1, 6-2 over Victoria Cann of Tennessee-Martin, and then defeated Morgan Ungerott of Cleveland State 6-1, 1-6 (10-7). Meanwhile, O'Neal defeated Ernestine Koornhof of Tennessee-Martin 3-6, 6-1, 11-9 before downing Carrie Trigilio of Dayton 6-3, 6-0. Fenley also advanced with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Mackenzie Hoops of Dayton. All three players will be playing in semifinal matches Saturday.
Other Panthers claimed a single win on the day, with Samantha Drews splitting a pair of matches in Flight E singles and Traci Litscher going 1-1 in Flight D singles. The doubles team of Drews and Ali O'Neal also claimed a win in first-round play.
Action in the event wraps up Saturday.
