MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Dec. 13, 2006) - Jasmin Dixon had 23 points and 10 rebounds as Chicago State handed the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball team a 54-45 loss Wednesday night at the Klotsche Center.

Sophomore Emily Markert and senior Aubrey Hampton each scored 10 points to lead the Panthers (4-8). Sophomore Katie Fournier added seven points, nine rebounds and two blocks and sophomore Turquoise McCain chipped in six points and nine boards.

UWM had no answer for Dixon, who shot 9-for-13 on the night and added four steals and four assists. She scored 16 of her points and had nine rebounds after halftime. Chandra Timberlake added 14 points for the visiting Cougars (4-6).

"It was a disappointing loss on our home court," Milwaukee head coach Sandy Botham said. "We had two teams who had their backs against the wall and we couldn't come up with the win. Their top three play so well, share the ball so well. On any given night, they each are capable of having a big game."

Milwaukee shot just 35.3 percent and committed 23 turnovers on the night. Meanwhile, CSU hit on 40.4 percent of its field goal tries and turned the ball over 18 times. The Panthers did win the battle on the glass, 39-38, while neither team was effective from the free throw line, combining to shoot 10-of-23.

The Cougars led by as many as six in the first half, but was not able to pull away before taking a 25-20 lead into halftime. McCain gave UWM its final lead of the game at 7-5 less than five minutes in. CSU countered with the game's next six points over the next 4:28 to take the lead for good.

Milwaukee was able to pull within three late in the period on a Markert jumper, but would get no closer.

In the second half, it was a 7-0 run late that put the game away and gave Chicago State its biggest lead at 52-41 with 1:47 to play. The Panthers looked to get back in it when McCain hit a jumper and the Cougars missed three-straight free throws while in the bonus.

"It became so mental towards the end," Botham said. " We did not get the boards or the stops we need and then gave them too many opportunites down the stretch."

Hampton made it a seven-point game on an acrobatic lay up in the paint with 27 seconds remaining, but UWM would not score again.

Milwaukee now has a 10-day lay-off before returning to action Dec. 23 at La Salle. The Panthers and Explorers tip off at noon in Philadelphia.
