Kastenholz Drops Two Matches At ITA Regionals

Oct. 19, 2006

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Kari Kastenholz dropped a pair of matches on day one of the ITA Regionals in East Lansing, Mich.

Kastenholz fell to Alexis Conill of Northwestern 6-1, 6-1 in the first round before dropping a 6-7, 6-2, 10-1 decision to Jenny Edner of Northern Illinois in the consolation round.

Both foes were tough competition for Kastenholz, with Edner part of a Northwestern team usually ranked in the top 10 in the country and Edner the #1 singles player on NIU's team a season ago.

"I thought Kari played pretty well," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "The one thing that she needs to work on is to win the big points. She was battling back spasms throughout the day, but fought through that and showed fairly well for herself."

Kastenholz will team with Ashley Clark for doubles competition Friday.
