MILWAUKEE, Wis. (Jan. 28, 2006) - Senior Nichole Drummond scored a game-high 17 points and freshman Traci Edwards posted her 10th double-double of the season as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball team beat Cleveland State, 61-46, Saturday afternoon at the Klotsche Center.

The win was the 100th league win of UWM head coach Sandy Botham's career, she is the second coach in league history to reach the milestone.

Edwards had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Panthers (11-8, 6-2 Horizon League), while Dominique Butler was the lone Viking (3-16, 1-7 Horizon League) in double figures.

Botham, in her 10th season as Milwaukee head coach, joined UW-Green Bay's Kevin Borseth in the exclusive club. Borseth reached the mark earlier this season.

"I feel very blessed to be coaching this program. This being my 10th year, it's nice to get my 100th," Botham said. "It's not just me, it's been a collective effort. Today, we had an alumni game and the women that were out there were the ones that helped it to become reality. This is a great program and I hope I have 100 more."

Using an 11-point halftime lead, the Panthers did not allow CSU within 10 the remainder of the contest. Freshman Turquoise McCain hit a layup and was fouled with just over six minutes remaining in the game, drew the foul and completed the three-point play from the free throw to give UWM its largest lead of the afternoon at 52-30.

Botham then cleared her bench, as all 17 players on the roster played in the game.

UWM finished the game shooting 38.5 percent, while hosting its guests to just 34.7 percent from the field. Milwaukee also had 16 assists, compared to 19 turnovers, while the Vikings managed just six assists and had 18 turnovers.

"I thought it was a total team victory," Botham said. "Defensively, we did a great job against these guys. They have so many potential scorers. Our players did a nice job of containing them. Our goal was to keep them under 50 points and we kept them at 46. Our goal was to have them shoot 35 percent or less and we did that. We are pleased with the victory."

The Panthers outrebounded Cleveland 44-28 for their third-straight game with a +10-or-better rebounding margin. In their last game, they won the battle of the boards, 50-26, at Wright State Thursday.

Milwaukee had little trouble with Cleveland State, jumping out to an 11-2 lead on a jumper by senior Molly O'Brien just over six minutes into the game. The Panthers built their lead to 14 for the first time at 26-12 when Edwards hit a layup just after the final media timeout of the half.

Drummond converted two free throws with 15 seconds to go before halftime to provide for UWM's 11-point halftime lead. She had 13 first-half points for her sixth-straight double-digit scoring game. The Kenosha native has scored in double figures in all eight career games against Cleveland State and finished the day just above her 16.9 career scoring against CSU.

"(Having Nichole shooting well) helps out a lot," Edwards said. "In the beginning of the first half, they had somebody in front and me and behind me. When I did kick out, she would make it. So, they have to respect her making her shots, and it definitely opens up for me. It works great."

Milwaukee has a week off before returning to action at first-place UW-Green Bay Feb. 4 at the Phoenix Sports and Recreation Center in Green Bay. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
