STILLWATER, Okla. -
Junior Mike Goetz collected three hits, and senior Shane
Davis added two more, to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball
team in action Sunday afternoon in Stillwater, Okla. It was not enough as
Oklahoma State University completed a three-game sweep over the Panthers
with a 5-1 win. UWM fell to 2-7 on the season, while OSU improved to 14-6
with the win.
Panther starter Korey Keller (0-2) put together a solid start for Milwaukee,
scattering 12 hits and four runs over six innings. The junior right-hander
struck out three in throwing six innings in his second-straight start. Brae
Wright (4-1) got the ball for OSU, striking out seven in seven innings of
work for the win.
Trailing 2-0 in the second inning, the Panthers put their only run on the
board. Senior Blake Kangas led off the inning with a single, and two batters
later Davis singled and senior Steve Sanfilippo walked to load the bases.
Goetz followed with his second hit in as many innings to score Kangas and
cut the OSU lead to 2-1.
Oklahoma State got on the board first with two runs in the first inning.
With one out in the frame, Rusty Ryal reached on a bunt single and scored on
a double by Mike Hernandez. Adam Carr followed with another double, to score
Hernandez and put the home team ahead, 2-0. The Cowboys added to their lead
with single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings.
Milwaukee will look to end its five-game losing skid when it returns to
action, March 19, in Bradenton, Fla. The Panthers open their annual Florida
trip with a single game against Rhode Island at 1:30 p.m.
