Two Panthers collected three hits, but it was the Cowboy offense that stole the show, as Oklahoma State University defeated the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team, 20-3, Saturday afternoon in Stillwater, Okla. OSU (13-6) scored in each inning to hand UWM (2-6) its fourth-straight loss.
After surrendering an opening-frame run, Milwaukee knotted the game at 1-1 with a single run in the second inning before surrendering 19 unanswered runs.
Senior Blake Kangas struck a two-out double in the top of the second inning, and scored the Panthers' first run of the weekend on sophomore Matt Curran's single up the middle. Senior Steve Sanfilippo followed with another single, and freshman Jesse Hart walked to load the bases, but UWM's threat ended on a fly out centerfield.
Oklahoma State roughed up sophomore starter Robert Michalkiewicz (0-2) for nine runs in 3.1 innings and coasted to victory. Sophomores Mike Rauwerdink and Rob Brockel also saw time on the mound and were met with similar results. Adam Daniels went 5.1 innings for OSU, surrendering one runs on eight hits to pick up the win
UWM cut the final tally to 20-3 with a pair of runs in the top half of the ninth. Hart and senior Charlie Reschke led off the frame with back-to-back singles. Senior Brent Buechel doubled to left to score Hart, and two batters later sophomore Joe Nowicki was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Junior Zak Rivera drew a walk to score Reschke for the team's final run.
Milwaukee was led by Hart and Kangas, who accounted for three hits apiece. The Panthers also got two hits from both Sanfilippo and Reschke as they pounded out a season-high 14 base knocks.
The Panthers' weekend series with OSU wraps un Sunday with a single game at 1 p.m. Junior Korey Keller (0-1, 4.22 ERA) will take the hill for Milwaukee, while the Cowboys' starter is yet-to-be determined.
