Box Score

MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee outscored the University of Detroit Mercy by 16 points in the second half en route to a 60-46 victory in Horizon League women's basketball action here Saturday (Feb. 5). The Panthers held UDM to 17 points in the second half and moved over the .500 point for the first time this season with an 11-10 overall record. Milwaukee also moved into a second place tie with UIC in the Horizon League race thanks to an 8-3 mark. Detroit lost its eight straight game and fell to 6-16 overall and 3-8 in league action.

"It was really a great second half for us after struggling some in the first," UWM head coach Sandy Botham said. "I thought we turned the heat up defensively and forced them out of some things and then it helped our flow on offense."

Milwaukee struggled shooting the ball in the first half and connected on just seven-of-26 shots for 26.9%. Meanwhile, Lindsay Pasquinzo drilled four three-pointers in the first half and scored 16 in the frame to give the Titans the 29-27 lead at the half. UDM shot 40.0% in the first half and outrebounded UWM 20-18.

The Panthers quickly took over the game in the second half and scored 10 of the first 12 points to grab a 37-31 lead on a Megan Rogers triple with 15:21 to play. Detroit's Katie Solner connected on a three-point play to cut it to 37-34 but a 10-0 UWM run pushed the lead to 13 on another Rogers jumper with 11:34 ramaining.

The Detroit offense stalled for much of the rest of the game as the visitors could get no closer than 11 points the rest of the way. UWM led by as many as 16 points, the last coming 58-42 when Teri Huff scored on a drivly layup with 3:41 to play. Huff led Milwaukee with 15 points while Molly O'Brien added 14 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. Pasquinzo was the only Titan in double figures with 18 points.

Milwaukee will hit step out of the Horizon League for a non-league tilt on Thursday (Feb. 10) versus IPFW. UWM will then continue on to Cleveland and face Cleveland State in a league game on Saturday (Feb. 12).
