Box Score
EVANSTON, Ill. -
For six innings things went about as well as possible for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee baseball team. However, thanks to a 10-run seventh inning Northwestern University spoiled a strong outing by freshman Robert Michalkiewicz en route to a 15-4 non-conference win here Tuesday (Apr. 27). With the win Northwestern improves to 17-19-1 while UWM falls to 14-21.
Milwaukee jumped on NU starter Ryan Myers scoring three runs on four hits in the first three innings. The Panthers grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second thanks to a two-run single by Dan Navarette. The base-hit was the fourth hit in four consecutive at-bats for the freshman.
After a Northwestern run in the second, UWM grabbed a 4-1 lead with solo runs in the third and fourth innings. Ben Stanczyk drilled his second base hit of the game to score Matt Alexander in the third before Sam Jansen scored on an error by Wildcat rightfielder Jason Krynski in the fourth.
Meanwhile on the mound Mickalkiewicz kept NU off balance in six solid innings. The freshman lefty allowed two runs (one earned) on four base hits with one strike out. The Menasha-native continued his run of solid pitching performances and has allowed no more than two earned runs in each of his last five starts, good for a 2.32 ERA.
Things went downhill for UWM in the bottom of the seventh as the Wildcats scored 10 runs on nine base hits. Reliever Jed Dolske struggled for the Panthers as he allowed nine runs in one-third of an inning, with nine base hits, many of which were softly hit. The Wildcats scored three more runs in the eighth for the final 11-run margin.
UWM will be back in action Wednesday (Apr. 28) when the Cougars of Chicago State University come to Henry Aaron Field for a single-game beginning at 3:00 p.m.
