EVANSTON, Ill. - Sophomore Lindsay Caldwell won the 100 freestyle, while adding a second-place finish to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming & diving team at its dual meet with Northwestern University Friday night in Evanston. The Wildcats came away with the victory, 145-97, in the first dual meet of the season for both teams.

"Northwestern is a strong team, and is generally a top-20 team nationally," head coach Dave Clark said. "Considering that, I think we swam well this evening."

In winning the 100 free, Caldwell swam a time of 53.54 to edge the opposition by 0.12 seconds. Taking third in the event was freshman Kristin Skiba, who touched the wall in 56.07.

"With Lindsay's swim, it just shows that with our best people we can compete with the best in the Big Ten," Clark said. "There were solid swims on both sides. Susan Harmsen in the 1000 (freestyle) was another good showing for us."

Also swimming well was Harmsen, a junior, who placed third in the 1000 free. The Berlin, Wis., native posted a time of 10:56.64 in the event. Posting a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke was junior Patricia Frank. Frank completed the distance in 2:25.85.

The Panthers ended the night with their best relay showing, taking second in the 400 free relay. Skiba teamed with fellow frosh Michal Hawker and sophomores Bridget Fargen and Heather Sawatzki for a time of 3:46.97 in the event.

Northwestern has said diving results are not available at this time. Results from both the one- and three-meter diving events will be posted on uwmpanthers.com when they are released.

Milwaukee's weekend in Chicago continues, as the Panther swimmers return to Northwestern for the Northwestern Relays on Sunday at noon. The UWM divers head to the UIC Invitational, where they will get underway at 10 a.m.
