The Panthers (21-20), who were playing without starters Troy Doering, Sam Jansen and Marcellus Dawson, could must just an unearned run in the sixth inning off of the four Crusader hurlers. Justin Lata (2-1) claimed the win before getting help from Adam Knobel, Kyle Cummings and Adam Paetznick.

Charlie Reschke had two hits for UWM. His double pushed Jeff Pitrof to third base in the sixth inning before Pitrof scored on a two-out Valpo error. Otherwise the Panthers advanced just one other runner as far as second base.

Valpo (16-28-1) scored three times in the third inning off Panther starter Geoff Lefeber (4-4) and three more times in the sixth off reliever Rob Erickson. Ben Stanczyk threw the final inning for UWM.

The Panthers return to action Friday night, hosting Youngstown State in a 7 p.m. contest.
