Seventh-Inning Outburst Leads UWM Past CSU

April 25, 2003

Box Score

MILWAUKEE - Dave Pudlosky hit two home runs and pinch-hitter David Michna collected the go-ahead two-run double in a six-run seventh inning to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to an 11-8 win over Cleveland State Friday night at Henry Aaron Field.

The Panthers (17-15, 5-4 Horizon) trailed 5-2 entering the seventh inning but Troy Doering started the inning with a single against Viking starter Mike Ochwat. After Steve Sanfilippo struck out, Pudlosky belted a two-run home run over the center-field fence.

That brought reliever Jimmy Gulden into the game. He hit Ben Stanczyk and walked Jeff Pitrof before Michna brought both runners home with a drive to the gap in right-center. Michna scored on a single by Sam Jansen, who eventually scored on a wild pitch to cap the scoring in the inning for the Panthers.

UWM then added three insurance runs in the eighth inning, with Michna, Jansen and P.J. Cannon collecting RBIs for the Panthers.

Cleveland State (7-22, 1-7) had built its 5-2 lead by scoring three times in the top of the fourth inning. Steve Chinn drove in two runs with a double before Justin Poletti drove him in with a double.

Panther starter Geoff Lefeber battled to earn his fourth win and third complete game of the season. After CSU built that 5-2 lead, Lefeber shut the Vikings down until the ninth. CSU scored three times in the final inning before Chinn grounded out to end the game.

The Vikings pounded out 16 hits but left 12 runners on base. Cory Rojeck collected three hits while four other players had two hits apiece.

Pudlosky, Michna, Jansen and Cannon had two hits apiece for the Panthers, who won for the third-straight time in league play.

The two teams return to action Saturday afternoon with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
