Panthers Split At Parkside

KENOSHA, Wis. - P.J. Cannon drove in the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning to give the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee a 7-6 win over UW-Parkside in game two of a doubleheader Thursday.

The Rangers (20-18) won the first game, 9-2.

Cannon's single scored Sam Jansen, who had four hits in the two games. The Panthers (16-15) had built a 5-0 lead through 2 1/2 innings but then had to rally after Parkside scored six times in the bottom of the third.

UWM tied the game in the fifth on a ground out by Matt Alexander before Cannon's two-out single in the seventh gave the Panthers the winning run.

Leroy Pederson (1-0) worked three scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win, while Ben Stanczyk came on to retire the side in order in the seventh to earn his third save of the year.

In game one, the Rangers scored five times in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a close game. Erik Kraemer had two home runs in the contest for the Rangers.

Jansen and Jeff Pitrof had two hits apiece for UWM. Jeremy Leibfried (0-1) went the distance in absorbing the loss.

UWM opens a four-game league series tomorrow night at home against Cleveland State.
