Box Score
MILWAUKEE, Wis. -
Geoff Lefeber scattered seven hits and struck out seven batters as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee rallied back to beat Butler University, 3-2, Friday night at Henry Aaron Field. Ben Stanczyk had two RBIs to pace the Panther attack.
Trailing 2-0, UWM (12-12, 2-3) battled back scoring two runs in the fifth inning, and took the lead with a single run in the seventh. Marcellus Dawson led off the seventh with a single, and was brought home on a RBI single by Stanczyk.
Both Lefeber (3-2) and Butler ace Aaron Phillips pitched solid and completed their starts. Lefeber got the uperhand by not walking a batter and working out of jams in both the first and eighth innings. In both instaces, the Bulldogs put two players on base with one out, but were unable to score.
Butler (20-18, 6-3) jumped on the board first, scoring a single run in the fourth inning after Ryan Nance led off with a double. Nance advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Paul Beck. Justin McKinley led off the next inning with a home run to round out the Bulldog scoring.
Milwaukee couldn't capitalize on four early Butler errors, but broke through and tied the score with two runs in the fifth inning. After a pair of singles, Dawson scored on a Steve Sanfilippo fielder's choice and Stanczyk singled Sanfilippo home with the tying run two batters later.
Both Stanczyk and Dawson finished with two hits apiece, while Troy Doering had a hit and a walk to extend his streak of consecutive games reaching base safley to 59.
The series will continue when the Panthers and Bulldogs play a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Henry Aaron Field. The first game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
