NILES, Ohio -
Sunday's series finale between UWM and Youngstown State has been rained out.
The contest will not be made up.
UWM (29-15, 14-5 Horizon League) returns to action Wednesday night at home against Chicago State. The Panthers then close out the regular season with a crucial, four-game home series against second-place UIC. After originally setting out to play a tripleheader, persistent rain in Chicago forced the cancellation of all three remaining games in the series.
The Panthers would win the regular-season Horizon League title by winning three of four games over UIC this coming weekend. UIC would claim the title by winning three of four. If the two teams should split, the Flames would need to complete a game against Youngstown State from earlier in the season in which UIC won a protest ruling. The game would restart with UIC leading 2-0 in the bottom of the eighth inning, though the league has not specified a makeup date for concluding the contest.
The Panthers wound up winning two of the three games played in the series with the Penguins, who are in third place in the league. UWM has now won 14 of its last 15 games and has gone 25-5 since a 4-10 start to the season.
