Nationally-ranked Nebraska scored 10 times in the first three innings and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 16-1 win over UWM Wednesday afternoon.
The Cornhuskers (19-8) pounded out 16 hits and took full advantage of the seven walks issued by UWM starter Rob Erickson, who lasted just 1 1/3 innings. Brandon Eymann was the hitting star for Nebraska, tallying four hits, including a home run, while driving in five runs. Four other Cornhuskers had at least two hits.
UWM (4-10) could muster just four hits off Nebraska starter Phil Shirek and four relievers. John Vanden Berg, who had two hits, collected the lone RBI for the Panthers in the ninth.
The Panthers open their home schedule Sunday with a doubleheader against Wisconsin Lutheran. The first pitch at Henry Aaron Field is set for noon.
