Late Home Run Does In Panthers

April 26, 2002

Box Score

EUCLID, Ohio - Brian Beaumier hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead Cleveland State to a 3-2 win over UWM Friday night.

Matt Freisleben (2-5) surrendered the home run after Panther starter Geoff Lefeber allowed the first two batters in the inning to reach base. The homer ruined another stellar outing by Lefeber, who was charged with two of the runs but allowed just six hits and did not walk a batter in eight innings of work, lowering his season ERA to 2.38.

Dave Pudlosky and Ben Beno drove in runs for the Panthers (15-14, 5-4 Horizon), who scored in the third and seventh innings.

Jerry Long (3-4), who threw a one-hitter in a Cleveland State win last week, went the distance for the Vikings (11-22, 5-4), allowing just six hits and only two unearned runs.

The series continues with a doubleheader Saturday afternoon and a single game Sunday.
