UWM batted around in two separate innings, scoring eight times in the second and six more times in the fifth, en route to a 20-7 win and a sweep of its doubleheader with Bradley Wednesday afternoon at Miller Park.
John Vanden Berg had three hits on the day, including a 415-foot home run to left in the third inning of game one, and drove in six runs in the Panthers' first-ever appearance at the Milwaukee Brewers' year-old park.
Dave Pudlosky added four hits and Quintin Oldenburg (4-2) grabbed the 5-4 win in game one for his 21st career win - one away from the school record of 22.
1,056 fans attended the doubleheader, the largest crowd ever to watch UWM in Milwaukee.
The first big inning for the Panthers in game two included four hit-batsmen and two walks. Charlie Reschke drove in two runs with a single while Matt Alexander and Troy Doering each had run-scoring singles for UWM (15-13) in the eight-run second.
The Panthers added three insurance runs in the third, including run-scoring doubles by Vanden Berg and Pudlosky. In the six-run fifth, Shane Davis drove in two runs with a single while Matt Alexander and Dan Kardelis added run-scoring hits.
Bradley pitchers hit five UWM batters in game two and issued eight walks while also allowing 18 hits, tying a season-high for the Panthers. Matt Gecan and Todd Spicer drove in two runs apiece in game two for the Braves (13-26). Beaver Dam-native Eric Baldwin did not get out of the second inning in absorbing his first career loss.
In game one, Vanden Berg cracked a 415-foot home run to left field to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead. After Bradley scored twice in the top of the fourth, UWM struck back with a single run in the bottom of the fourth when Pudlosky scored on a passed ball. The Panthers added another insurance run in the fifth on an Adam Christ single. Bradley pulled to within 5-4 with two runs in the sixth, but Matt Freisleben retired the side in the seventh to record his fifth save.
Gecan had two hits, including a two-run home run, to lead Bradley in game one. Starter Brock Till (1-5) worked the first five innings in absorbing the loss.
UWM returns to action Friday night, starting a four-game league series at Cleveland State. Friday's first pitch is set for 6 p.m. CDT.
