Lefeber Pitches Panthers To 4-1 Win

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Geoff Lefeber tossed eight scoreless innings as UWM earned a split of its four-game series with Butler with a 4-1 win Sunday afternoon.

Lefeber (1-0) allowed just five hits and saw only one runner advance as far as third base in earning his first Division I victory.

Cory Kleeba gave up one run in the ninth before Matt Freisleben recorded the final out for his fourth save.

The Panthers (13-13, 5-3 Horizon) scored three times in the third inning. Troy Doering scored the first run on a wild throw during a stolen base attempt, while David Michna drove in a run with a single and Steve Guden added another run on a sacrifice fly. UWM's other run came home in the fourth on an RBI single by Doering.

Butler starter Cory Kugle (2-2) allowed all four runs and seven hits in five innings of work.

The start of the game was delayed one hour and 29 minutes by rain.

UWM returns to action Tuesday night, hosting Concordia (Wis.) in a single game at Henry Aaron Field. Wednesday, the Panthers welcome Bradley to Miller Park for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
