LAWRENCE, Kan. -
Jeff Davis limited UWM to just one run over six innings and Matt Tribble cracked a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to lift Kansas to a 4-1 win over UWM Friday afternoon in the Panthers' season opener.
Aaron Bushong (0-1) allowed just two runs in his first five innings of work but was knocked out of the game in the sixth by Tribble's two-run homer. While the Panther bullpen then held Kansas scoreless the rest of the way, the UWM offense could never muster more than a John Vanden Berg RBI single in the first.
Vanden Berg was the only Panther with more the one hit in the game. Newcomer Geoff Lefeber and senior Matt Freisleben tossed three scoreless innings in relief for UWM
The Jayhawks (6-0) and Panthers (0-1) will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
