ATHENS, Ga. -- Dylan Page scored 23 points but the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee could not overcome a second-half outburst by Georgia in falling, 89-69, Saturday afternoon at Stegeman Coliseum.
Rashad Wright was one of three Georgia players to score 16 points, but he also contributed 10 assists as the Bulldogs (7-3) won for the fifth-straight time.
Ezra Williams and Jarvis Hayes also scored 16 each for Georgia (7-3), while Steve Thomas added 11 and Chris Daniels had 10.
UWM had an eight-game winning streak snapped in the loss, which saw the Panthers (9-3) shoot just 39 percent from the field and be outrebounded, 53-35. Jason Frederick added 12 points for UWM.
"They were more physical than we were," UWM head coach Bruce Pearl said. "You could see the difference in physical play between our league and the SEC. Dylan was consistent again. He showed he can play with those guys out there. But for us to win, we've got to make more shots than we did."
Georgia broke out of a 27-all tie in the first half with an 11-0 run, grabbing a 38-27 lead with 3:05 remaining after Damien Wilkins' jumper at the top of the lane. But the Panthers responded with eight straight points of their own, including bookend 3-pointers by Frederick and Page.
The Bulldogs led 44-37 at intermission with Wright scoring his team's last six points. The Panthers trimmed the lead to four points at 48-44 after Nate Mielke's layup in transition with 17:53 remaining, but the Bulldogs exploded to a 15-3 run over the next three minutes, including five breakaway dunks. The Bulldogs then led by as many as 25 points late in the game.
The Panthers' shooting woes included a 2-of-13 performance from three-point range in the second half. Plus, senior Clay Tucker, still suffering from back spasms, made just 1-of-13 shots from the field.
UWM returns to action Thursday night, traveling to Detroit for a Horizon League contest. The game begins at 6 p.m. CST.
