MILWAUKEE - Eric Goerdt hit a grand slam in game one and Quintin Oldenburg recorded his team-high sixth win of the season in game two as UWM extended its winning streak to eight games with a doubleheader sweep of Lakeland College, winning each game 8-2.

In game one, Goerdt's grand slam was part of a six-run first inning. Derek Daggett also drove in two runs with a single, while Scott Gillitzer and Goerdt each added RBI singles in the sixth.

Dave Pudlosky (1-0) allowed just one earned run in his first start of the season, while Matt Freisleben lowered his ERA to 0.95 with 1 1/3 scoreless innings in his 18th appearance of the season.

In game two, UWM built an early 3-0 advantage, and appeared to be cruising after Oldenburg (6-2) struck out the side in the fourth during his one inning of relief work. But, Lakeland scored once in the fifth, and Jason Crawford had to strike out two batters in relief with the bases loaded to preserve the advantage. UWM then added a single run in the bottom of the inning and four more in the sixth to clinch the victory.

The Panthers (22-11) have now won eight straight games, equaling the second-longest winning streak in school history. UWM is also a perfect 7-0 at home.

UWM returns to action Wednesday, traveling to Bradley for a doubleheader.
