UWM scored 18 times over the final four innings to break open a close game en route to a 20-4 win over Cleveland State Friday night at Henry Aaron Field.
The two teams were tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning when the Panther offense exploded. UWM scored three times in the fifth, then added seven more in the sixth. Darin Haugom had an RBI triple in the inning, while Mike Oiler added a two-run single.
The Panthers (17-11, 5-0 MCC) scored four more times in the seventh - two coming on a Scott Gillitzer home run - and the Panthers rounded out the scoring with four more runs in the eighth.
Gillitzer went 4-for-6 with four runs scored and four RBI, while Matt Houk also had four hits and John VandenBerg added three more.
Quintin Oldenburg worked eight innings to record his team-high fifth win of the season. Jerry Long (3-6) worked 5 1/3 innings in taking the loss for the Vikings (11-20, 0-5 MCC).
UWM has now scored at least 20 runs in back-to-back games, and the Panthers scored at least 20 runs in a game for the third time this season, a school record.
The two teams return to action Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader. Game one begins at 1 p.m.
