Junior Laura Dallenbach's 25 kills sparked the UW-Milwaukee women's volleyball team to a 15-9, 12-15, 15-9, 15-12 win over Austin Peay and to the championship of the Powerade Panther Invitational.
The Panthers (5-1) finished the two-day tournament 3-0, and have now won 12 straight matches in the Panther Invitational.
Dallenbach (Waterloo, Iowa/West) was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, recording 52 kills in the three Panther wins.
Sophomore Tari Bouton (Burnsville, Minn.) closed out game one for the Panthers with a kill, one of her six in the match. UWM led game two 12-11 before Austin Peay scored the final four points of the game. In game three, the Panthers broke a 9-9 tie by scoring the final six points, while the Panthers broke a 12-all tie in game four by scoring the final three points. Kills by Dallenbach accounted for points 14 and 15 in game three, and points 13, 14 and 15 in game four.
UWM junior Chrissy Schurla (Chicago, Ill./Evergreen Park) and UWM sophomore Larissa Cattanach (Fargo, N.D./North) joined Dallenbach on the all-tournament team. Junior Bridget DeChant of Portland University, Melody Friehauf of the University of Wyoming, and Danielle Waldrep of Austin Peay University rounded out the all-tournament squad.
The University of Wyoming finished 2-1 in the tournament, with their only loss coming Friday night to UWM. Austin Peay finished the tournament 1-2, while Portland University finished 0-3.
