Panthers Sweep Doubleheader From Detroit

Milwaukee - The UWM baseball team extended its winning streak to four with a doubleheader sweep against Detroit on Saturday at Henry Aaron Field at Lincoln Park. The Panthers won the first game, 10-3, and the second game, 4-1.

UWM improves to 24-20 on the season, 9-4 in MCC games. Detroit is now 14-21, 4-10 in the MCC.

In game one, the Panthers saw a strong pitching performance by Chad Sadowski, who went six innings and allowed five hits and one earned run. He improved to 6-6 on the season.

The Panthers scored a run in the first inning when Darin Haugom reached on a bunt single down the third base line and took second when the Detroit third baseman's throw was off target. He moved to third when Steve Tylke reached on an error and scored on Eric Goerdt's ground ball.

The Titans scored two runs in the second inning to take a 2-1 lead.

The Panthers scored three runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 advantage. Scott Gillitzer led off the fame with a double. Two outs later, Sadowski and J.J. Kotarak walked to load the bases for Mike Oiler, whose chopper through the hole at shortstop scored two runs. Matt Houk followed with an RBI single to right field.

The Panthers broke the game open with six runs in the fifth inning to give UWM the final 10-3 score. Goerdt and Haugom each had two-run singles in the inning. Haugom finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.

In game two, Detroit scored first, when it plated an uneared run in the third inning. It was the only scoring in the game until the sixth inning when Todd Ludwig reached on an error with two outs and the bases loaded. Two runs scored on the play, giving the Panthers a 2-1 lead. The Panthers went on to score two more runs in the inning, both came on walks with the bases loaded.

Quintin Oldenburg pitched a complete game to improve to 4-0 on the season. He allowed five hits and no earned runs as he struck out six and walked none.

The same two teams wrap up their four-game series with a single game on Sunday at noon.
