Milwaukee - Darin Haugom and Matt Houk, the first two batters in the UWM lineup, went a combined 4-for-5 with six stolen bases and five runs scored as the Panthers shut out UW-Whitewater, 8-0, on Tuesday at Henry Aaron Field.
Haugom, the Panthers' leadoff batter went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Houk went 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Each had three stolen bases in the game.
Eric Goerdt, who batted third in the lineup, benefited by having runners on base. He went 2-for-2 with four RBIs.
Freshman pitcher Rob Erickson, in his second collegiate start, pitched six innings, allowing no runs on four hits while striking out six to improve to 2-0 on the season. It was Erickson's first action since striking out 10 in six innings against Chicago State last week.
Quintin Oldenburg, Andy Neary and Chad Sadowski all pitched a perfect inning of relief.
The Panthers jumped out in front early, when Haugom led off the bottom of the first inning with a single. Houk's single moved Haugom to third. Goerdt followed with a sacrifice fly and Scott Gillitzer hit a double, scoring Haugom and Houk, respectively.
Houk scored again in the third inning when he led off the frame with a triple and scored on Goerdt's single.
The Panthers added two runs in the fifth inning when Haugom and Houk led off with a single and walk, respectively. They both stole a base and scored on Goerdt's single.
UWM scored three more in the seventh. Todd Grafenauer, Jeff Rodgers and J.J. Kotarak all scored runs in the frame on RBIs from Rodgers and Brett Huebner.
