Panthers Advance in MCC Tournament with 10-9 win over Detroit

Dayton, Ohio - Chad Sadowski picked up the win and hit a grand slam home run as the UWM baseball team posted a 10-9 win over Detroit in the first round of the MCC Baseball Championship on Thursday.

The Panthers advance to the second round of the winners' bracket of the double-elimination tournament and will play next on Thursday at 3 p.m. Their next opponent will be the loser of the Cleveland State-Butler game.

Sadowski picked up the win and sparked the Panther offense at the plate. On the mound, Sadowski pitched six innings,allowing just one run. As a batter, he went 2-for-3 with five RBIs. Four of the RBIs came on a grand slam home run in the second inning.

Eric Goerdt, the MCC Newcomer of the Year, and Scott Gillitzer, each went 3-for-5 with an RBI. J.J. Kotarak went 1-for-2 with a two-run single.

The Panthers scored four runs in the second, two in the third, three in the sixth and one in the seventh to build a 10-2 lead after seven innings.

But the Titans came back and scored seven runs in the ninth inning. Detroit had runners on second and third with one out, but Quintin Oldenburg earned his first save of the year by retiring the next two batters.
