Panthers Split Twinbill With UIC

Milwaukee - Chad Sadowski pitched a complete game to earn his 19th career victory as the UWM baseball team split a doubleheader with MCC-rival UIC on Saturday at Henry Aaron Field. UWM won the first game, 4-1, but lost the second game of the twinbill, 6-3.

In game one, Sadowski allowed one run and six hits, while striking out seven batters as he improved on his school record for wins in a career. He is now 5-6 on the season

Brett Huebner started the scoring in the first inning when he walked, stole second and scored on Scott Gillitzer's single.

The score remained 1-0 until the sixth inning when Gillitzer hit a three-run homer to centerfield, giving UWM a 4-0 lead. UIC scored a run in the top of the seventh.

In game two, UWM starter Andy Neary did not allow a baserunner until the fifth inning, but saw the Flames score four runs in that frame. Neary pitched into the seventh inning, allowing five earned runs. He struck out eight batters and walked only one, but fell to 6-3 on the season.

The Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Darin Haugom led off the inning with a single, stole second and scored on a Matt Houk single.

Houk drove in another Panther run in the third inning when Mike Oiler scored on a single, giving UWM a 2-0 lead.

The Flames broke through with four runs in the fifth, and single runs in the sixth and seventh. The Panthers scored a run in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough.
