Milwaukee - In a battle between the top two teams in the MCC, Quintin Oldenburg excelled as the UWM baseball team defeated UIC, 4-2, on Friday night at Henry Aaron Field. The Panthers improve to 18-17, 5-2 in league play. UIC is 20-21, 7-4 in the MCC.
UWM's starting pitcher, Oldenburg impressed in just his second start of the season. He pitched eight innings, allowing just five hits and two runs, while striking out nine batters. Eric Goerdt pitched a flawless ninth for his third save of the year.
The Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Matt Houk walked and scored on an error. Goerdt was hit by a pitch in the inning and scored on a Todd Ludwig single.
Houk scored again in the fifth inning on a Goedrt RBI single. Brett Huebner added a solo home run in the sixth inning, his fifth of the season and 14th of his career, tying him for eighth place in the UWM record book.
The Flames scored their only two runs in the third inning.
The same two teams play a doubleheader on Saturday at noon at Henry Aaron Field.
