Evanston, Ill. - The UWM baseball team gave up six runs and the lead in the eighth inning in a 12-7 loss to Northwestern on Tuesday.
UWM (13-13) scored two runs in the first inning when Chad Sadowski hit his sixth home run of the season. He later added a two-run single in the seventh. He finished the game with four RBIs, giving him 141 in his career at UWM. Jeff Stoss (1995-98) held the previous mark with 138 RBIs. Sadowski, who went 2-for-5 at the plate, needs three hits to break the school record of 178 career hits.
Northwestern (16-14) held a 6-3 lead after two innings, but the Panthers scored one in the sixth and three in the seventh for a 7-6 lead. The Wildcats responded by scoring six in the bottom of the eighth, including a two-out grand slam home run.
Eric Goerdt picked up the loss on the mound for UWM. He pitched two and two-thirds innings of relief, allowing three hits and three earned runs. Mike Oiler started the game, pitching five innings and allowing six earned runs.
UWM is back in action when it plays host to Wright State on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Milwaukee's Henry Aaron Field.
