March 23, 2000

Box Score

Hunstville, Ala. - The UWM baseball team posted an impressive 9-7 win over Alabama-Huntsville, a top-ranked NCAA Division II team on Thursday.

The Panthers are now 4-9 on the season and have won four of their last five games.

The win moves UWM Sophomore Tim Meinecke tallied his first career win by pitching three and a third innings of relief, allowing only one hit. Meinecke's performance came after Eric Goerdt's quality start on the mound. Goerdt pitched four innings, allowing three runs and striking out four Charger batters. Matt Friesleben pitched a third of an inning in the ninth for the save.

UWM jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the fourth inning, but the Chargers came back to pull within a run, 8-7, in the fifth inning. But the Panthers held UAH and tallied an insurance run in the ninth for the final score.

Brett Huebner had another big day at the plate. He went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Steve Tylke had a pair of hits and three RBIs. Chad Sadowski and Todd Ludwig each had a pair of RBIs.

The Panthers travel to Middle Tennessee State for a Friday game.
