Women's Basketball Defeats Butler, 71-57, as Von Wald Records Double-Double

March 2, 2000

Milwaukee - The UW-Milwaukee Panthers saw another great game from sophomore guard Corrin Von Wald as they defeated the Butler Bulldogs, 71-57, at the Klotsche Center Thursday night.

With the win, the Panthers (15-11) locked up second place in the MCC with a 9-4 record in conference play.

UWM trailed by as many as eight in the first half, 22-14, with 7:58 remaining until the break. From there, Butler went 0-14 from the field and the Panthers went on to score the final 15 points of the half. UWM led 30-22, at halftime.

In the second half, the Bulldogs actually took the lead, 53-52, with six minutes remaining in the game, but from there it was all UWM

"We're pleased with where we are at. It's great to lock up second and be in the position to win the MCC Tournament," said coach Sandy Botham.

Von Wald led the Panther attack with the fourth double-double of her career and the second in as many games. She had 14 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals, including 6-6 from the charity stripe.

"Corrin's strength is her versatility. That's why she is so effective," said Botham. "She wants the ball down the stretch."

Freshman guard Jessica Wilhite added 11 points off the bench, including eight in the second half. Senior center Kelly Lubbers added 10 points and three boards of her own.

The Panthers are back in action at the Klotsche Center for the final home game of the season on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
