Milwaukee - The UW-Milwaukee Panthers took down the MCC co-leading Detroit Titans at the Klotsche Center, 75-68, Thursday night.
The Panthers took a 7-6 lead on a Teri Stoltenberg three-pointer and never trailed again in the game. UWM has now won six of its last seven games and is now tied for second place in the MCC with a record of 6-2.
UWM (12-9) led by as many as 15 in the first half, when the score was 29-14 with eight minutes remaining in the first half. But Detroit charged back to cut the lead to eight, 43-35, at the half.
In the second half, the Titans were able to storm back, trailing only 67-66 with 2:36 remaining. Corrin Von Wald was able to help the Panthers close the door on the Titans by scoring UWM's last six points from the charity stripe. Von Wald led all scorers with her 23 points, which ties her career high and led the Panthers with eight rebounds.
"This was a big weekend for us and Green Bay to set ourselves apart from the rest of the conference," said head coach Sandy Botham.
The backcourt of Daryl Schaffeld and Teri Stoltenberg chipped in with 10 points each on the night and Stoltenberg led the Panthers with her five assists.
The Panthers look to continue another winning streak on Saturday when they play host to conference-foe Cleveland State. The game takes place at the Klotsche Center at 2 p.m. The Vikings are coming off of a loss to UW-Green Bay and are now 3-6 in the conference.
