Mount Pleasant, Mich. ? The UWM women?s basketball team lost to Central Michigan on Tuesday night, 70-67.
The Panthers fall to 5-6 on the season, while the Chippewas improve to 3-9.
"Everyone needs to do their part," said UWM coach Sandy Botham. "We just haven't been able to find consistancy."
UWM was led by double-figure scoring performances by junior center Janelle Jonason and sophomore guard Corrin Von Wald. Both scored 16 points. Both players also paced the team with six rebounds each. Senior guard Daryl Schaffeld scored nine points of her 11 points in the first half.
"I thought our post players had a good game tonight. We just needed more consistancy from the guards," said Botham.
UWM took advantage of 14 Central Michigan turnovers in the first half for a 33-27 lead at intermission.
Central Michigan hung with the Panthers early in the second half and went on a 7-0 run to take a 59-54 lead with 2:36 remaining.
UWM responded with the game?s next four points, but CMU?s Jodi Culbertson scored five straight points of her own, giving the Chippewas a 64-58 lead with 1:00 remaining.
UWM cut the deficit to three, 70-67, but Schaffeld?s desperation three-pointer rimmed out at the buzzer.
"We need to stay confident and prepare for the second part of the season, the conference games," said Botham.
The Panthers have nine days off until their conference opener, Jan. 13 at Cleveland State.
