MILWAUKEE -
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball team defeated the Loyola Ramblers, 97-77, at the Klotsche Center Saturday afternoon to extend their winning streak to a season-best three games.
The balanced Panther attack consisted of five players in double-digits including four with 15 or more points to lead UWM to its highest point total of the season. The Panthers have not lost at home against Loyola since 1986 and leads the all-time series 11-6.
In the first half, the Panther charge was led by junior forward Nicole Luchsinger who poured in a career high 16 points before the break and 18 total to accompany her eight boards. The Panthers led by 16 at the half, 48-32.
"We tell everyone to shoot," said UWM head coach Sandy Botham. "They all have the green light and they all need to be a threat like Nicole was today."
In the second half, Loyola brought themselves back to within seven with just over four minutes remaining. Down the stretch, reigning MCC player-of-the-week Corrin Von Wald proved to be too much for the Rambler defenders. Von Wald led the Panthers with 22 points including 12-14 from the charity stripe to go along with her five steals and two blocks.
Junior guard Teri Stoltenberg scored 16 points along with four steals and a team-high six assists and senior guard Darryl Schaffeld scored 16 points and had six rebounds. The freshman spark-plug, Jessica Wilhite also contributed with 10 points of her own off of the bench.
The Panther women face off against the University of Illinois-Chicago at the Klotsche Center at 7 p.m. Monday.
