Women's Basketball Rolls in Chicago

Jan. 25, 2000

Chicago, Ill - The UWM women's basketball team hit a school-record 13 three-pointers as it improved to 8-8 on the season with an 86-59 win at Chicago State on Monday.

Jessica Wilhite scored 18 points to lead UWM. Teri Stoltenberg added 15 points on five three-pointers. Corrin Von Wald scored 13 and had six assists and four steals, and Daryl Schaffeld scored 10 to go with a season-best seven assists.

"This is a good win for us. Right after beating UW-Green Bay, we were able to set the tone from the start," said UWM coach Sandy Botham.

The Panthers went on a 12-0 run to start the lead and led 18-6 with 12:35 remaining in the first half. UWM led by 15 points at halftime, 42-57.

The Panthers opened the second half with a 12-0 run and scored 19 of the half's first 21 points.

"I thought it was critical that we stay focused during the first five minutes of the second half. We were able to do that," said Botham.

The Panthers hit 13 of their 24 three-point attempts, including eight of their first 16 attempts. Freshman guard Antoinette Gregory's three-pointer with 11:00 minutes to go was the team's 12th of the night, bettering the previous school record of 11 set most recently on Jan. 23, 1999 against UW-Green Bay.

UWM's early lead allowed Botham to rest her starting line-up. No starter played more than 24 minutes.

"It was good for us to get some of our other players some quality minutes. When you are working towards a championship, you need that kind of experience," said Botham.

UWM returns home for a MCC game against Loyola on Saturday. Tip off is 2:00 p.m.
